The Library Project
While picture books and children’s books are common in American households, many of the students at ANAC have never read one. Allowing the students access to books and giving them the chance to check them out and bring them home will enrich their lives in so many ways!
Over the course of the last year, Woodbury Girl Scout Keagan has been working on achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award. After her girl scout leader, Cari Jo, traveled to Haiti on the January 2018 trip Keagan was inspired to help Kozefo in some way. After assessing A New Arrival Center School’s needs, the library project was born.
After enlisting the help of her friend and family, hosting garage sales to raise money, selling girl scout cookies, and hosting badge events, Keagan has raised over $3,000. She has connected with a local french immersion school and Scholastic Canada to purchase books to fill the library.
Keagan has organized for the volunteer team traveling to Haiti in February to transport the books to the school and install the shelving units. Their hope is to put the finishing touches on the library before they leave!
the girl scout gold award is the highest award in girl scouts.
Open only to girls in high school, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award in the world for girls—and the most difficult to earn—and it’s only available to Girl Scouts. As a Gold Award Girl Scout, they’re challenged to change the world—or at least their corner of it.
Gold Award Girl Scouts like Keagan are making the world a better place. These young women are inspiring leaders whose Gold Award projects are impacting the worlds of STEM, education, agriculture, medicine, and more on a local, national, or global level.
The Building Plans
Our Haitian engineering partner, Jephthe, has written up a proposal for the library room. Soon, this drawing will become a reality and filled with books!
The total cost of construction is estimated to be around $6,000. Please consider joining the other generous bookworms to make the building of this library a reality!
100% of every donation to the Library project will go towards the building supplies, construction costs, and shelving units.
